Apartments Kakera - Eco-design with a luxury focus

Apartments Kakera were created on Cook Islands family land.  As the land of Kakera belongs to the family and future children, Kakera owners Andrew and Melinda Ponga feel strongly that it must be cared for and treated with utmost respect.

"Our holiday villa apartments are new, stylish and modern but most importantly eco friendly," says Andrew  "but they complement and blend with their surroundings, using natural elements to their benefit and staying respectful of the surrounding natural environment."

Eco-friendly practices began in the design stages of the apartment project. Andrew and Melinda installed natural venting and quality insulation to cool Apartment PepeApartment Ra and Apartment Karanga wherever possible, minimise energy use.

Building products were chosen based on their effect on the surrounding land.  Where the building's water run-off fell, the land's own natural porosity was enhanced and used effectively.

All roofing product has a World Health Organisation drinking-water rating. In addition, the roofing and much of the wall cladding is made from recycled products.

Apartments Kakera Rarotonga staff practise organic gardening and fertilising and use only natural and many home made bio-degradable cleaning and washing products. All recyclable products are recycled and food scraps are fed to the local pigs or used for compost.

Even the local, private beach benefits from Kakera's eco-aware philosophy.

"We do not remove shells from the beach we enjoy looking at them in their natural state" says Melinda "and we always take home what we take with us to the beach, and remove anything others may have left behind.  We believe that we live in a little paradise and work at keeping it that way."
