Aparments Kakera is on the sunrise side, on the main circle road that winds 34 kms around the edge the tropical island of Rarotonga the capital of the Cook Islands. Kakera is located in the rural village of Turangi on the south east coast of Rarotonga 2kms from the village of Muri and 12 km south of the Rarotong international Airport. Apartments Kakera, luxury villa apartments are set at the foot of lush tropical foliage covered mountains and valleys and along side a natural coral reef e Pacific Ocean beach. The sound of waves breaking on the reef and the salt spray it creates, fills the air of Kakera. This local island spot is the perfect eco location for your tropical island holiday experience. We do recommend to be able to see all of this beautiful and safe Pacific island, that transport is essential. Our local bus stops at the gate and our local rental company will deliver a well serviced car (NZ$48 per day) or motorbike (NZ$25 per day) or bike (NZ$15) to the door. Just 50 metres from our back gate over a field is the private natural, coral reef ocean beach of Kakera (see above), where you can sunbathe in secluded sandy coves or on Apartments Kakera's private deck, safely bathe in the shallow rock pools, exploring an array of reef creatures and shells at low tide or simply enjoy the quite natural surroundings and relax away from the crowds.
Kakera reef offer lots of adventure and is a favourate surfing and boogie boarding spot for both locals and visiting surfer with it's well formed waves and close reef offering an adrenalin rush to those giving it a try. Inside the reef offers great boogie boarding for the young ones and great fun to sit and watch their wave tricks. When the ocean is calm Kakera offers an amazing snokelling experiance (fish photos from Kakera Reef) for good swimmers.

However if you are seeking calmer waters, Rarotonga's famous Muri lagoon is only a 2kms walk or 3 min drive from Apartments Kakera and the popular Fruits of Rarotonga snokelling reserve is a 5 mins drive.
Apartments Kakera are within easy reach of several local shops for a quick snack, fresh fruit or a cool ice cream in a cone. The Cook Islands Coffee shop is just around the corner and so to is our local petrol station. Down the road in Muri there is a great selection of fast food and fine restaurants to choose from, if you decide to eat out.
If you're looking for sightseeing the village of Turangi and its back road offer stunning local scenery including plantations of tropical crops, and the backdrop of rugged mountains and valleys is a great place to explore. The walk to our local water catchment and water fall offers lots of beautiful scenery (see photos from the tack). Turangi (Kakera) also has several ancient ruins and Marae sites. Pa's(Queens) Palace and Kainuki Marae are a short walk from Apartments Kakera (see photo). Island tours and activities are easily arranged at our office and most operators will pick you up from the apartments gate. Just ten minutes drive away - or a leisurely 25 minute push bike ride - from Apartments Kakera is the main township of Avarua, providing sightseeing, the port, markets, shopping, cafes, banks and two major supermarkets.
